Nanny For those who do not know or realize, Nanny’s dementia has progressed, her macular degeneration has progressed, her hearing is almost gone. Nutrition She is unable to see the numbers on the stove. She can’t tell if she has the oven on. She can’t see to and doesn’t remember how to make cornbread which she has known how to do since she was 5 years old. She can’t use the microwave to reheat the meals Kathy brings her from the community center. I would like people to sign up to make sure she has dinner. If it’s going by and making her a chicken pot pie from her freezer and making sure she sits down to eat it, or bring her a hot plate, or a burger. Just make sure she eats cause she can’t even do the simplest things safely. House She is unable to clean her house properly. Kathy plans to spend some time there and help her to get things clean. This will take a lot of time and effort as Nanny hasn’t been able to see well for a long while. If anyone would like to help clean, clean a room, clean the fridge, whatever they can… it needs a good cleaning. Memory Nanny can’t remember when people have been by. It is getting heartbreaking. Kathy has come by and knew someone else had come by. At bedtime (only 8:30pm) Nanny calls and says well “This has been the loneliest day, I haven’t seen no one all day”. Mom didn’t have the heart to tell her that she did and to correct her and point out that she just doesn’t remember. In the past her house has been busy 24/7. Now she doesn’t always get visitors. I would like to encourage everyone to pick a day and sign up to be a daytime visitor. That means that day you will go see her. Trying to make a point to have someone everyday. Ask friends and family that might know Nanny to go visit her. Her Dementia is progressing quickly. Eventually she won’t eat, will pick at food like a bird. I don’t have to go into details of where we’re headed. Kathy has called the Age line. She is trying to get some help. Someone to come out and a couple times a week to clean and stuff. They can’t get her on a list until May. We have a big family. Please help share this load to take care of Nanny as she has always looked after all of us to make sure we were happy and healthy.
