Helping Jessica Recover Rotator Cuff Surgery

Mukilteo, WA

Story

My name is Jessica Clift, daughter and caregiver to Jack Clift, who has been battling Huntington's Disease for several years now. I hate to take the attention away from my dad, but here I am taking the spotlight. I have exhausted the majority of my resources caring for my dad, my best friend, my hero, in addition to neglecting my own medical needs since I was not able to get the time off approved from work, resulting in a forced resignation. I have poured everything into making sure my dad is well cared for and comfortable. He has been on hospice for over a year and is still hanging on. His words the other day were, "I'm not ready to go yet." I can't blame him! My dad's long, slow death is really out of my control. What I can control is me! This situation has forced me to choose between work, my loved one's well-being, or my own health and well-being, but I can't have all three. I spent a leave of absence getting my father relocated to a facility that can provide a higher level of care. This resulted in giving my dad an increased quality of life with the time he has left and made it so I could get my sleeping and eating patterns regulated. I was constantly "worried sick." Now I am reaching out to the community on my own behalf for my comfort and care for recovery from rotator cuff surgery. The most direct way you can help me is financial support as this is going to be an extremely large expense. I currently have a gap in coverage. I will be signing up for COBRA insurance as soon as I receive the paperwork and have surgery scheduled for February 25th. I was told to have all claims resubmitted to be applied to COBRA. Crossing fingers this all goes smoothly. After surgery, I will need to keep my left arm immobilized in a sling for approximately six weeks. Rehab and rebuilding strength and dexterity of my arm will start in approximately 10 weeks, and this process may take an additional six months to get to full strength again. I will not be able to do anything that requires me to use my arm until the beginning of May at the earliest. I know I have the support of my community in so many ways. Through this platform, I hope I can be provided some financial support so I can focus entirely on the healing process. I know it’s not always possible to give financially, and the beauty of community is that it shows up in so many forms. Other types of support are also welcome!!!! Non-financial support is very welcome! - Are you in the Mukilteo/Everett area and able to drive me to any of the PT sessions? - Want to help me prepare a meal? I am going to need help in the kitchen and grocery shopping . - Are you in the Marysville area and can deliver small chocolate Frostys to my dad? Or are you able to take me to and from so I can check in on him or stock up his favorite snacks? - Help me get creative! Please consider sharing this and circulating it. I would be lying if I said that I was NOT scared, but I think the universe is sending me a message to prioritize myself, slow down, and trust the process. Here are the results from my MRI: Musculature/Rotator Cuff: Partial thickness tear undersurface both supraspinatus and infraspinatus tendons, involving about 50% of the tendon thickness at the supraspinatus measuring about 1.3 cm from front to back and about 2.4 cm from side to side. Infraspinatus shows similar high-grade partial-thickness tear involving about 75% of the tendon thickness, measuring 1.5 cm from front to back and 1.1 cm from side to side. Subscapularis and teres minor attachments are normal. No muscular edema or fatty atrophy. Impression: 1. Partial-thickness undersurface tear of both the supraspinatus and infraspinatus of the rotator cuff. This involves 50 and 75% of the tendon thickness. Thank you for helping me get my life back. Love, Jessica Mary Clift
